Overloaded With Life? Simplify!

Posted on May 11th, 2013

Simplify...it’s easier said than done.  Clutter holds us back from our present and our future. Nature loves a vacuum.  It fills it with beauty.  Clearing clutter makes room for more good things, not necessarily material good things, to come into your life.  Do we really need thirty pairs of shoes?  Do we really need six cameras?  How many plastic bowls without lids can we use?  Our society and the prosperity of our nation, coupled with expert marketing are somewhat responsible for this clutter problem.  Not much is being recycled in the big picture.  There’s an abundance of “stuff” and no place to put it.  If we can work in our own homes to get it under control, maybe, our children and grandchildren will learn from our mistakes and begin to take better care of the earth and its resources. Clutter is not the only problem in simplifying our lives.  It’s only the beginning.  A more natural backyard can cut down on landscape maintenance and it attracts more birds and wildlife to the area. Part of the simplification process involves reducing maintenance, saving time for other things, and creating a more relaxed life.

Here are a few other thoughts to simplify life:

Stop watching the news and reading the newspaper every single day.

Build a simple wardrobe for every member of the family.

Get out of debt.

Rethink your shopping habits.

Work close to where you live if possible.

Drive the speed limit. Where’s the fire? Plan better to arrive on time.

Go to bed early at least one night a week.

Take time to watch the sun rise and the sun set.

Delegate chores at home.

Simplify your beauty routines.

Laugh more.

Decorate in a less “fussy” way.

Drive a simple car or truck.

Conserve your energy for what really matters.

Keep your personal and financial files organized.

Develop the quality of discretion.

Cue your children in to their heritage.  It builds stability in their personality.

Use the simplicity of sound, light and color to enhance your home environment.

Discard the notion of aging.  You are simply getting better.

Develop your natural talents.  Creativity is a necessary part of the human being.

When you must complicate your life, do it selectively.

Drink and eat healthy, good food and beverages.

Breathe.  Deep, cleansing breaths.

Keep your words kind, without criticism, and have no regret when dealing with others.

Learn to prepare simple, healthful meals.

Ask for what you want at work and at home.

Become unhurried and enjoy it.

Ask your body what it needs and respond with the proper action.

Decide that you are wonderful and beautiful.  Let no other human tell you otherwise.

Seek expert help with your big problems.

Realize that the prosperity mentality has nothing to do with money or material items.

Re-acquaint yourself with the awe and wonders of this life.

Love lavishly!

Greet and end each day with gratitude.

Clean your desk at the end of the day.

Make lists and take the pressure off of your mind to remember every little detail.

Upgrade your appliances to save you time and money and frustration in the long run.

Allow others to pamper and serve you if they offer.

Treat yourself to the beauty of classical or ambient music.

Look to rid your home of unnecessary noise.

Find balance in your life.

Stop being a clock-watcher. Go without your watch as much as possible.

Develop a habit of finding five minute miracles throughout the day.  These are things that make you smile.  Repot a houseplant, listen to a favorite tune, eat a really great piece of fruit, make yourself a smoothie, walk barefoot in the grass, hug the dog, pray, stretch, apply lotion, or anything else that gives you pleasure.

Honor yourself.  Not the person everyone says you are, but the real you.

Look for the evidence of Divine power in your daily life.  It’s there.

Encourage others to see their miracles, their goodness and their bright futures.

I know that these tips for simplifying your life don’t always have to do with material things, but rather with attitude.  The beauty of it is, when we return to the simplicity of good attitudes, the physical reality of the material world follows.  Changing your “stinking thinking” will manifest in wonderful things for you in all areas of your life.

Have a simply beautiful day!

To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter...to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life.”

-----John Burroughs
