Can We Learn A Lesson From Our Teenagers?

Posted on May 20th, 2013

Can we learn something from teenagers?  The answer is a great big YES!  In spite of the trials and headaches of bringing up these feisty, moody human beings called teenagers, we have to give them credit for some very good beliefs.

Teenagers tend to believe that not only are all things possible, but they are very likely.  The future looks like one large, delicious smorgasbord of opportunities.  They believe that no matter what happens, everything will work out. T hey believe they can change things, break records, and make a difference in the world.  They believe they are an integral part of life and the future.  Where along the way have we, as adults, lost that positive hope for the future?  When did we stop wanting to have beautiful and nice experiences in our lives, settling for cheaper, routine, mundane or musty existences?

Of course, not all adults have settled for the lesser life, but many have.  Be sure that you are not one of them.  Do not buy into the “age game” that makes you stay on schedule with everyone else: “When you turn sixty, it’s all over...When you turn forty, you need to dress in a more mature manner...”   You know what I’m talking about.

Age is a simple chronological number that is relational to the passing of days....it is not a death sentence, an invitation for disease to ravage our physical body or mind, nor is it the dictator of our dreams.  You dishonor the Creator when you give in to these thoughts.  You were made in the form of nothing short of a miracle.  You cannot give up on your body, your dreams or your future.  Life can be beautiful at any age for you in spite of your preconceived notions.  Do not let anyone tell you that you cannot retain your independence and dignity even though your age may be seventy or eighty.  Stay active in your mind, nor is it the dictator of our dreams.

Stay active in your mind, body and spirit. T he Creator did not make you so you would have your fiftieth birthday and then begin a descent into a wretched, regretful life.

Learn from the teenagers around you: Seize the moment, the hour, the day, the week and the month! Keep your dreams alive.  Believe you will be provided for and that life is good. Treat yourself to new things that you want to try and go to places you want to visit. Experience life and as one of my favorite authors, Sark, says :”Live juicy and enjoy the succulence of life!”  We’ve all been hurt, we’ve all made mistakes, and been humiliated.  Get over it and grab the joyful life you were created to live.

I challenge you to list the things you want to do, want to see and want to experience before your life is done.  What do you want to wear? Dress like you want to, try that new style, have a professional makeover, go back to college, take a class, write that book, paint that oil painting, visit Alaska, go to Bermuda, reach that goal.  Regain your youthful attitude and watch the miracles that will unfold for you.  Have fun!  I wish you great blessings of joy and enlightenment along the way!
