It's been so long since I have had time or access to write here.  Dad has been in the hospital for 70+ days and is now in a rehabilitation facility.  We have moved to be able to provide support and care for him and for mom.  It is a joy and blessing to be able to do this.   Dad is learning to walk again and we celebrate the smallest of victories for him each day.  It is inspiring to watch him battle back to reclaim his mobility....against the odds.  I am struck  by the determination and faith that he has.  My mom stands stoically by his side and encourages him.  They have been married for 59 years and have weathered many storms in life together.

Both of them amaze me!

Just when you think things are settling down...surprise!  That's how life is.  I have been back with my dad in the hospital.  He has been there one month now.  Each day, I watch this brave man fighting to keep himself alive and straining to improve his conditions.  I will not show fear or sadness in front of him.  I am cheerful and strong.

When I leave his room, I find all kinds of memories and lovely thoughts filling my heart and head.  Love, for any person, is a bittersweet experience.  We are never ready to turn loose of the person we love.  Yet, all of us will find that the physical presence of one we love may cease to exist at any given time, for a variety of reasons.  Love is a sweet, strong emotion and bond.  Separation from a loved one for any reason is painful, hence the bittersweet nature of love.  Love brings us joy and pain.

I will be relocating my practice to North Georgia soon, leaving my lovely Greenville office and the friends I have there.  It's okay....I look forward to the new beginning.  I must be close to my parents to assist in their care, to share in wonderful daily memories in the making.  It is a duty and a joy.  They have always been there for us.  We will be there for them.

This is the norm for baby boomers these days.  We can find comfort in knowing we are doing all we can for those we love!

I look forward to getting back on schedule with my blogging and working with my clients.

I have been away for a few weeks to care for family.  Our dad has been in intensive critical care for two weeks and is still there.  It is sobering to be faced with the possible loss of a loved one.  He is not out of the woods yet....we are taking it day by day and praying for his recovery.

Our mom is not well either, and we are taking turns going to be with her and help out.  It is funny how clear the memories and stories of our childhood become as we sit looking into the face of a loved one fighting for their life.  Tears of sadness and of joy seem to mix during this time of remembrance.

We do not let him see our tears and we smile and offer support and uplifting thoughts for his recovery.  We talk about the future and make plans for family gatherings to give him something to look forward to.  He is scared, but he is strong and it inspires us.

Love is such a double-edged sword.....sweet and wonderful and yet bittersweet and painful in the face of loss.

These are times when we continue to examine who we are and what we can do during tough times.  It reveals our inner core of strength and character.
